PROGRAM
What are we looking for?
Dominating. Devastating. Ultimate. Elite. Rockers.
Personality, positive energy, confidence, a willingness to entertain and engage the crowd.
Candidates interested in cheering for NCA&TSU must learn the material presented. The coaching staff looks for well-rounded athletes who are able to transition between the traditional style of cheering to the up-stomp and shake style.
CHEER SQUAD TRYOUTS
Jumps
Toe Touch, Double Toe Touch, Front Hurdler, Pike
What are we looking for?

Tumbling
Standing Back Handspring, Toe Touch Back Handspring, and/or Roundoff Back Handspring
*Multiple back handsprings, tucks and/or tuck passes are a bonus*

What are we looking for?
Main Base - Must be able to hold a major portion of a partner stunt
Side Base - Must be able to support the main using proper technique and strength
Back Spot - Must act as a brace for the flyer while offering support to the main and side
Flyer - Must be able to balance in the air while utilizing proper technique
(being tight and pulling her weight up) and showing above average flexibility.
**Tryouts will require the flyer to demonstrate her skill in at least (3) single leg position (i.e.- lib, heel stretch, arabesque, scale, scorpion, needle, bow & arrow). Additionally, she must be able to single down from stunts. Doubling down from stunts is a bonus.**
*** It is suggested that larger and/or taller flyers be prepared to stunt at a different position. **
Dances
2 dances and 2 sideline dances will be taught
What are we looking for?
Candidates should be prepared to pick up a fast paced, choreographed dance quickly.
Tight motions, confidence, appropriate facials, and mastery of the material will earn the highest points.
Motions
At least 2 cheers and 2 chants will be taught
What are we looking for?
Tight motions, confidence, consistent eye contact, smiles, and mastery of the material will earn the highest points.
Words need to be cheered versus spoken.

General
All candidates must be accepted into NCA&TSU at the time of tryouts. An acceptance letter is required for all incoming and transfer students. A NCA&TSU Cheer Tryout application must be turned in prior to tryouts. All candidates must submit a transcript from their most recent institution and the results of a Sickle Cell Trait test screening. All candidates must be cleared by the University Athletics Compliance Department prior to tryouts.
Tryout Week
Required Tryout Attire:
Flyers: white shorts, white sports bras, blue/gold shorts, white sports bras (Fri)
Bases: black shorts, white sports bras, blue/gold shorts, white sports bras (Fri)
Back Spots: gray shorts, white sports bras, blue/gold shorts, white sports bras (Fri)
All: blue/gold ribbon, white sneakers (cheer sneakers preferred), white ankle socks
**Material taught daily is subject to change.**

Candidates will need: game day make up, natural look (no colored eye shadow, no false eyelashes), a lipstick shade that complements your complexion, hair half up, half down (no bangs or hair in or around face), blue/gold/white ribbon in hair.
Reminders
No pierced jewelry and no spacers for piercings are acceptable at tryouts or during the season. Tattoos MUST be covered on tryout day and for all appearances during the season. No Bandaids can be used to cover piercings/tattoos. Nails must be active length and must be unpolished (nude colors are prohibited).
*Please do not be expect to receive a spot during the tumbling portion of the tryout. A spotter will only be provided at the discretion of the coaches. This means that if you don't have the required skill, please do not attempt to perform it. Candidates will be expected to perform gymnastics skills on the track or gymnasium floor. Advanced tumbling skills can be performed for during tryouts for extra points.
